The Breakdown

How pricing works: base rate, APA & extras

Base charter rate

Base charter rate covers use of the yacht, the crew and standard equipment. It usually excludes fuel, food, drinks, taxes, permits and incidentals.

APA — Advance Provisioning Allowance

A pre-paid onboard account held by the captain, typically 30–50% of the base rate. Unused APA is refunded; if costs exceed it, you top it up during the charter.

Crew gratuity

Customary but discretionary — generally 10–15% of the base rate, paid at the end of the charter.

What the APA covers

  • Fuel for the yacht, tenders and toys
  • Food and beverages to your preference
  • Marina, port and national-park fees (Komodo, Raja Ampat)
  • Permits
  • Laundry, communications and shore transfers arranged by the yacht
  • Special requests

Typical inclusions

  • Professional crew — captain, deck, steward/ess — on all charters
  • An onboard chef on true luxury weekly charters
  • Water toys such as snorkel gear, SUPs and kayaks (some yachts carry seabobs and inflatables)
  • Tenders for beach landings and transfers, with fuel drawn from the APA
